Objective: To develop a small scale living unit through the strengthening of space planning and concept development skills. This project refined skills in AutoCAD and Sketchup rendering early in my design education.
Overview: This small floorplan located in a Tulsa apartment building was to in reflect some aspect of the city's rich history. Tulsa was the location of early innovation in the aircraft industry, and thus the concept for this project emerged- to draw historical reference from the early 20th century interiors of airplanes. This included research into the materials, seating, and design, each of whcih is represented in this project. The detail I had the most fun designing was the fold down bar, to mimic seat-back tray tables in modern airplanes as well as the maximize function and storage in the small floorplan. Additionally, I included ribbing within the glass panes of the office wall divider that play off of the structural interior of early planes. Finally, I selected a green gridded tile and modeled the grodded floor plan similarly , so as to represent the view one would see while flying over the Oklahoma fields.
Although this project was early in my education, it is still a favorite of mine for the detail, conceptual elements, and overall aesthetic execution.
